Region details
The Patagonic region is often visited by tourists from all over the world. It was a land of adventurers and pioneers. It can be clearly divided into two sub-regions. The first one is mainly mountainous, with some natural lakes, glaciers and forests. It has one of the most breathtaking sceneries in Argentina. The second sub-region limiting with the Atlantic Ocean- has a very particular landscape of high plateaux, valleys, streams and hills, which give a wonderful view to the coastal scenery.
The region has a great number of National Parks that were created in order to protect the natural landscape as well as the fauna and can be visited by tourists.
There are also tourist attractions on the sea front, especially in Puerto Madryn and nearby places-, where you can watch the sea life richness, including sea wolves, elephant seals, penguins and whales.
Among the places we strongly recommend is one of the most beautiful and accessible glaciers in the world: The Glaciar Perito Moreno. There is also the incredible road of the seven lakes .Ruta de los Siete Lagos- that starts in San Martín de los Andes and leads to La Angostura village, where you can find seven different lakes of unique beauty. Another point worth visiting is the city of Bariloche.
Much further to the South, in the island of Tierra del Fuego, you can visit the most southern city in the world: Ushuaia. There you can sail through the channels; the only separation from the white continent is the Drake passage.
During the Winter, there is significant ski practice throughout the region. The main ski centers are El Catedral -in Bariloche-, Chapelco -in San Martín de los Andes-, Cerro Bayo -in Villa La Angostura- and Cerro Castor -in Ushuaia-.
